Home / Virtual Tour

Welcome to a virtual tour of LIGO Hanford Observatory (LHO). LIGO and its international partners expect to open a new field of astronomy through the direct detection of gravitational waves from astrophysical sources. Gravitational waves offer the potential for new discoveries related to black holes, neutron stars and perhaps objects and processes that astronomers have not yet imagined.

Located near the Tri-Cities in Southeast Washington, LIGO Hanford joins with its sister facility near Livingston, Louisiana to monitor the universe for the faint whispers of gravitational waves using huge laser interferometers. This tour will give you a look at some of LHO's facilities and equipment. Each link on the menu above provides a 360 degree panoramic image. Use your mouse or the arrow keys to move around in the image, and use the shift and control keys to zoom in and out.
